Reiki is a wonderful tool for improving the quality of your life. You can dip into it with the odd session to aid relaxation. If you’re more serious about it, you can learn how to give yourself and those around you Reiki. That, for some, leads to further study and a a life built around Reiki. It’s not a religion but it can become a spiritual path for a few.

Here at Reiki Scotland, we’re not looking to convert anyone or change your mindset. We’re here to show you that Reiki is about love and it’s fun! Before you switch off, thinking we’re trying to sell you the idea of loving all of mankind – that’s not what it’s about. Reiki is about learning to love yourself and care for your body and your mind.

Having a Reiki session can often clear up a variety of niggling ailments but it can also help take the stress away to understand what’s behind the problem. Most of the time, it just feels wonderful and that can have an amazing effect on the way we feel and are.

As I said, Reiki isn’t a religion, so there are no scriptures or manuals but it does come with five precepts. Even if you never get round to trying Reiki itself, the precepts are a wonderful aid to stress reduction. They are:

Just for today I will not anger

Just for today I will not worry

Just for today I will be grateful for all that I have

Just for today I will work hard at all that I do

Just for today I will be kind to all living things

Even taking a minute or so to repeat the precepts is a great start to a day. It’s time for yourself; to remind yourself what’s important – and if the day doesn’t go as you plan and you get angry, or worry, then start again tomorrow. After all, each precept begins, “Just for today…”
