Reiki lineage is a practitioner’s family tree. It’s intended to show a direct link with Reiki’s founder, Dr. Mikao Usui through the various Masters who have passed on attunements to others. If a practitioner cannot provide a lineage back to Usui sensei, there is no guarantee that they are practicing Reiki and it’s unlikely that they practice traditional Usui Reiki. The UK Reiki Federation recommends that anyone seeking training from a Reiki Master ensure they can be provided with a copy of the lineage  of their teacher.

In the last three decades, many varieties of Reiki have sprung up which have no direct link back to the founder, Mikao Usui. These should be avoided. Reiki was brought to the West by Mrs Hawayo Takata. At the time of her death in 1980, she had only attuned 22 Masters, If one of those is not in someone’s lineage, then be wary. This is my lineage:
